Inspiration: The Papua

One the inspirations for our new collection rock & bone was the Papua New Guinea.

We love a gathering with bold body adornment statements. High Drama.  The video below is from french photographer Eric Lafforgue.

The photos were taken at the biggest tribal meeting in the world: in Mount Hagen , Papua New Guinea. At this cultural fete the Papua paint themselves and dress up with feathers, pearls, bone, shells and animal skins to represent birds, trees or mountain spirits…

Africa Is In Style

Africa Is InStyle

I recently picked  this book up for the studio. I was immediately drawn to the title because I have always felt Africa is in vogue. There was something about the cover that really turned me on. Sheanan and I love to take our inspiration from traditional adornment concepts and I thought this coffee table book would be perfect inspiration.

I must say I was a bit let down. The content is brief and doesn’t quite focus on the continent as a whole. Heavy focus is placed primarily on West Africa. Although the work doesn’t stand up to my expectations, I do congratulate the goal of cataloguing the ways that African designers are shaping a new aesthetic for the fashion world.

We are thrilled to announce Adha Zelma was recently seen on R&B singer and songwriter Keri Hilson. Celebrity Fashion Stylist Andre Austin waved his magic wand of fierceness for the Keri’s fashion spread in the December 08 issues of The Source.

Keri rocked Adha Zelma’s limited-edition “Little Kiss” multi-strand earrings fashioned of 24K Charlottes with Coral, Citrine, Cornelian and feathers.
